About This Product

The Legendary Joe Strummer plays the guitar with an incredibly powerful, razor-sharp style and a surge of energy every time he touches the strings. He is the embodiment of Punk culture and a key figure in the development of this music genre. His style is direct, straightforward and energizing, which has brought Strummer a devoted fan base all over the world.

Famous for his work with The Clash, Strummer and his band were a major part of the punk rock genre, and have inspired countless bands from the past to the present. Strummer commanded the stage like a fierce commander, his guitar a machine gun in his hands. His weapon for the London Calling and Combat Rock era was the tried and tested Fender Esquire®. Perfect for chopping strings, with no wasted moves, the Esquire was the perfect instrument for Strummer's fiery stage performances after a thorough practice, with his drummer also running his drumsticks over the strings. It was one of Strummer's favourite models, appearing regularly at his famous shows, especially in the band's final years.

We’re excited to recreate this incredible piece of music history at the Fender Custom Shop in an extremely limited edition. Master guitarist Jason Smith has recreated the Esquire in The Clash era detail with black racing stripes, custom “Bourbon Street” decals, and a custom Relic finish. Not just for collectors, this guitar is built to rock and roll for anyone brave enough to play it in stage battles.

2-piece offset alder body, single-ply Eggshell pickguard, 9.5” flat-sawn maple neck, medium jumbo frets, ’59 “C” neck profile, and mini Schaller tuners. Top-load/string-through Tele® bridge with handwound Josefina 5/56 bridge pickup, 3-way switch, and ’59 Esquire string system.
