In 1956, a young mechanical engineer named Martin Cohen visited a popular New York nightclub, the Birdland Jazz Club, and was immediately impressed by Latin jazz percussion. He loved it so much that he wanted his own bongos. Trade embargoes at the time meant he couldn't get Cuban bongos in the US, so he put his engineering skills to work creating what he called "the world's finest bongos". This laid the foundation for his Latin Percussion (LP) company. For more than half a century, LP has been creating classic percussion instruments and patenting hundreds of innovations that meet the exacting standards of professional percussionists. Latin Percussion has become so popular, LP instruments are everywhere.

The unique profile of the LP Galaxy Fiberglass congas is wider at the belly and narrower at the bottom, delivering booming bass and crisp highs. The drum top is reinforced with Kevlar, the same material used in bulletproof vests. Twice as strong as steel, ensuring the drums will sound great for a long time.
